Joyce Howat
Biography
Joyce Howat paints flowers and landscapes in oils.
Like many others Joyce chose to study Science at school – in those days in the same column as Art - but kept an interest in painting as a recreation. Postgraduate study reintroduced her to painting and marriage to an architect gave her the encouragement and opportunity for painting on holiday.
Very soon after moving to Ayr, more than 50 years ago, she was introduced to Ayr Art Circle and the chance to use their studio. Influenced by their demonstrations and crit nights she started to paint in oils and had the chance to exhibit and sell her work with small groups or through the club.
She particularly enjoys painting landscapes and flowers. Her style is impressionist with thick paint and sometimes knife work. Her paintings are now hanging on walls in Australia, Canada, Germany, and the UK
